38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
They told her
That love must be earned
You had to woo and wait and play games
So that’s all she knew
And that’s all she did
She worked extra hard and bore it all
Love bears all things
Love endures
Love never fails
Then why did she feel suffocated
And incompetent and
Very frustrated
She knew she was missing a key ingredient
The one thing that would make it all make sense
Then one day,
when she least expected it
She watched her brothers play
Video games while she worked and it hit
Her: I love them anyway
Love is not something we work for
It is a gift, freely shared
Love is an action word
It is a choice we make, disregarding feelings
Or circumstances and happenstances
Now, if she, a stubborn human
Can choose to love anyway,
Why then, does she find it difficult to understand
That nothing, absolutely nothing
Can separate us from God’s love?

P. S. I am still on the Maverick train and this week, I’d like to share I Am Loved/There Is Nothing Better by Maverick City Music. It is almost never the first song on my playlist, but every time it comes on, I’m glad it is on my playlist. It does wonders for my heart and mind.
